How a Two-Partner Plumbing Business Could Share One 04 Number That Rings Both Phones
Two plumbers run the business as equal partners, each from their own van. Customers currently ring whichever personal mobile they happen to have. Here is how Click2Call could give them one business number that rings both, with what it would cost.
This is a worked example, not a customer story. The business is typical rather than real, the setup uses real Click2Call features, and the prices are current. There are no invented results. Last reviewed: October 2026.
The situation
Picture two plumbers in Sydney’s west who went into partnership two years ago. One van has one partner’s personal mobile on the side, the other van has the other’s, and the website lists both. Customers ring the number they have, which is often the partner who is under a house with no reception, and the job goes to whoever calls back first, or to another plumber.
They want one business number for the vans, the website and the Google profile, so that either partner can answer whichever call comes in. Neither wants to give up a personal number or carry a second phone, and they would like to text customers a job confirmation from the business number rather than from a personal one.
How it would be set up
Everything below is a standard Click2Call setting done in the portal, or by our team with managed setup.
- One 04 business mobile number for the business. Click2Call allocates a new 04 number for the vans, the website and the Google profile. It is a $10 a month business number, which includes free extensions for the people who answer it.
- Two free extensions in the app. Each partner installs the free Click2Call app (Secure VoIP) on their own phone and gets an extension on the account. Their personal number keeps working on the SIM for personal calls; the business number rings in the app.
- A ring group rings both at once. Calls to the 04 number ring both extensions at the same time, and the first partner to answer takes the call. If neither answers within 25 seconds the call goes to voicemail, and the message arrives by email with a transcript so whoever is free can call back.
- Calls out show the business number. Either partner can dial from the app and the customer sees the 04 business number, so callbacks come to the shared number, not to a personal mobile.
- Job confirmations by SMS. The 04 number sends and receives texts at 20c a message from the portal, so a “confirmed for Tuesday 8 am” comes from the business number. Replies arrive in the portal and by email.
- After hours, the AI takes the call. Business hours run 7 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday. Outside those hours calls go to the Answer Agent, which takes the caller’s name, number, address and the problem and emails the details with a transcript. A burst pipe at 10 pm still gets a callback, without either partner answering the phone in bed.
- Recording on the business number. Recording is switched on for the 04 number with a notice to callers, and each call has an AI transcript and summary emailed afterwards. If a customer disputes a quote given over the phone, the recording settles it.
How calls flow
A customer calls the 04 number
- Click2Call checks the time against business hours.
- In hours, the ring group rings both partners’ apps at once for 25 seconds.
- Whoever answers first takes the call; if neither does, voicemail takes a message and emails the transcript.
- After hours, the Answer Agent takes the details and emails them to both partners.
A partner calls a customer
- Either partner dials from the app, or sends a text from the portal.
- Click2Call carries the call to the phone network.
- The customer sees the shared 04 number, no matter which partner rang.
- The recording and transcript are emailed afterwards.
Each partner’s personal number is untouched. Family calls ring the phone’s normal dialler, are not recorded and never appear in the Click2Call portal.
What it would cost
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| 04 business number with two free extensions in the app | $10 a month |
| Monthly total | $10 ex GST ($11 inc GST), plus calls out at 10c a minute to landlines and 20c to mobiles |
| New 04 business number allocation | $50 inc GST, once |
| If each partner calls customers for more than about 75 minutes a month: two Cloud PBX users at $25 with 300 minutes each, plus the shared number | $60 a month ex GST instead of $10 plus per-minute calls |
| Managed setup (optional) | $300 ex GST, once |
Incoming calls are included. Voicemail to email, the ring group, business hours, call recording, AI transcription and summaries and the Answer Agent are included at no extra cost. SMS is 20c a message. There is no lock-in contract. See Pricing for every rate.
Every account starts with two call channels plus one for each $25 user, so on the $10 plan both partners can be on a business call at the same time.
What changes, and what doesn’t
Customers ring one number and get whichever partner is free, instead of the one whose number happened to be on the van. Missed calls become a transcribed voicemail or an AI-taken message with the address already written down. Confirmations come from the business, not from someone’s personal mobile.
What doesn’t change: both partners keep their personal numbers and their own phones. The AI after hours takes details and answers simple questions about the business; it does not quote or book jobs on the partners’ behalf unless they set it up to.
How many jobs this saves depends on how many calls were going unanswered. The portal’s call history shows the missed-call count from day one, so the partners can judge it themselves.
Before you set it up
- App calls use mobile data or Wi-Fi. A call needs about 100 kbps of steady data, so a partner under a house or in a plant room may still miss calls; that is what the voicemail transcript and the Answer Agent are for.
- Recording is announced to callers by the notice on the number; the business’s privacy policy should explain how recordings are kept.
- On both phones, the app must be allowed to run in the background and show notifications, or the ring group will ring one partner and not the other.
- If one partner would rather keep the number they already have on their van, porting a personal mobile into the business is a different example with its own trade-offs.
- Try the number, the ring group and the after-hours routing during the free trial before you have the vans re-signed.
