Send from the portal
- Click SMS in the top menu.
- Click Send a new Message.
- Enter the mobile number and your message, and send.
Sent messages and replies appear under Messages. Use Groups to send the same text to a list of people.
Send by email
Allow your email address
- Go to Voice → Line Manager, click the number to send from, and choose Other Settings → SMS Messaging.
- Enter each email address allowed to send texts, one per line.
- Optionally set a passphrase. Put it in the subject of every SMS email. It's removed before the text is sent.
- Save.
Send a text
Email the mobile number at the SMS gateway. The subject and body are joined to make the message. Leave the subject blank if you only want the body.
To: [email protected]
Subject: Hi Sam,
Body: your order is ready to collect.
A text holds 160 characters. Anything longer is cut off, so split long messages into several emails. For numbers outside Australia, include the country code.
Replies
When someone replies, you get an email showing their reply, their number and your original message. On the SMS Messaging page you can choose which email addresses receive replies, or forward replies to a mobile number. Each forwarded reply is charged as a text.
You can only receive texts that reply to a message you sent.
Send from your own software
The portal API includes SMS functions to send messages, read replies and manage groups. In the portal, go to API → SMS Functions for the details. See also the Developer API.
Cost
Each text costs a flat 50c (AUD), billed to your account.
