Local, 04 mobile, 1300 and 1800 numbers
Business Phone Numbers for Australian Businesses
A business phone number is the number customers dial, print on your invoices and find on your Google listing. Click2Call gives you one online in minutes: a local number for your city, an 04 mobile number, or a national 1300 or 1800 number, for $10 a month ex GST. It rings the app on the phone you already carry, so there is no line to install and your personal mobile stays private.
7-day free trial, $11 of call credit, no card to sign up. Available to businesses in Australia and New Zealand.

Key Takeaways
- ✓Four kinds of number, one price. A local 02, 03, 07 or 08 number, an 04 mobile number, a 1300 number or an 1800 number, each $10 a month ex GST. Local numbers are free to allocate; a new 04 number is $50 inc GST once; a new 1300 or 1800 number is $100 inc GST once.
- ✓Pay only for the calls you make. The $10 number takes unlimited incoming calls to a local number, and calls out cost 10c a minute to landlines and 20c to mobiles. If you call out a lot, a $25 Cloud PBX user adds 300 minutes.
- ✓A virtual landline, not a wall socket. The number rings the free app on your mobile or computer, or a desk phone if you want one. Nothing is installed and your personal mobile number stays private.
- ✓Recording, transcripts and the AI are included. Call recording, AI call transcripts and summaries, the AI Receptionist and the Answer Agent come with every number, with recordings stored in Australia and New Zealand.
- ✓Online in minutes, no contract. Sign up, pick a number, and the account is independently verified before activation, usually within the hour. 7-day free trial with $11 credit and no credit card. Month to month, no lock-in. Australian and New Zealand businesses only.
How to get a business phone number in Australia
Getting a business phone number used to mean a visit from a technician and a copper line in the wall. Today the number lives in the cloud and you choose where it rings. With Click2Call the whole process happens online and takes less time than ordering a coffee, with the activation check the only wait.
- 1Decide which kind of number you want. A local number if your customers are in one city, a 1300 or 1800 number if they are all over Australia, an 04 mobile number if you want to text as well as talk. The next section compares them.
- 2Sign up online. Create the account at the Click2Call portal and choose your number from the available ranges. The 7-day trial includes $11 of credit, which is enough to provision a local number and make test calls, and no card is needed.
- 3Wait for activation. Every new account is independently verified before activation, usually within the hour, longer after hours. This check is what keeps the service clean of spam callers.
- 4Choose where it rings. Install the Secure VoIP app on your mobile or computer, or forward the number to your existing mobile. Set business hours, voicemail to email and the Answer Agent for the calls you miss. The add a phone number guide walks through the portal screens.
Which type of business number fits?
All four cost $10 a month ex GST and share the same features. They differ in what callers see, what callers pay, and the one-off fee to allocate a new number.
| Number | Best for | New number, once | Caller pays | You pay for incoming calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Local 02, 03, 07, 08 | A business that serves one city or region | Free | Their normal call rate | Nothing, unlimited |
| 04 mobile | Sole traders who want calls and SMS on one business number | $50 inc GST | Their normal mobile rate | Nothing for calls; SMS 20c each |
| 1300 | A national presence where callers share the cost | $100 inc GST | A local call rate | 20c a minute |
| 1800 | A national number that is free for the caller | $100 inc GST | Nothing | 20c a minute |
Local numbers: 02, 03, 07 and 08
A local number tells callers you are nearby, which matters for trades, clinics and any business people find on a map. Choose 02 for Sydney and Canberra, 03 for Melbourne and Hobart, 07 for Brisbane and the Gold Coast, or 08 for Perth, Adelaide and Darwin. Local numbers are free to allocate, incoming calls are unlimited, and you can hold one number per city you serve. Many customers start here: it is the number that goes on the website and the Google Business Profile.
04 mobile numbers
An 04 business mobile number lives in the app rather than on a SIM, so you carry one handset with two numbers on it. It is the only type that sends and receives SMS, at 20c a message, which suits booking confirmations and job updates. A new 04 number costs $50 inc GST once. If you would rather keep your current mobile number, porting it in is possible but depends on your carrier, and the number then stops working on the SIM and rings through the app instead.
1300 numbers
A 1300 number gives a business one number for the whole country without a city attached. Callers pay a local call rate, and you pay 20c a minute for the incoming call. 1300 numbers receive calls only, so most businesses pair one with a local number or a $25 user for calling out. A new 1300 number costs $100 inc GST once, then $10 a month. Care providers, trades covering several regions and any business that advertises nationally are the usual customers. The 1300 and 1800 numbers page goes into routing, porting and a worked example.
1800 numbers
An 1800 number is free for the caller from any Australian phone, which is why support lines and lead-generation campaigns use them. You pay 20c a minute for each incoming call, the same as a 1300 number, and the number receives calls only. Allocation is $100 inc GST once. If callers hesitate to ring because of cost, an 1800 number removes that hesitation; if not, a 1300 number does the same job at a local-call rate for them. See 1300 vs 1800 numbers compared side by side.
Every type routes the same way. Calls can ring your mobile app, a group of staff at once, a desk phone, or the AI Receptionist, and the rules can change by time of day. The number type is a choice about what callers see and pay, not about what the system can do.
What $10 a month includes
The $10 business number is a full line on the Click2Call phone system, not a stripped-down forwarding service. Incoming calls to a local number are unlimited and free. The account's extensions are free, so your team can answer and call from the number in the app. Calls out cost 10c a minute to Australian landlines and 20c a minute to mobiles, billed from prepaid credit, with no monthly bill to open.
- ✓Unlimited incoming calls to a local number
- ✓Free extensions for your team, in the app or on desk phones
- ✓Calls out at 10c a minute to landlines, 20c to mobiles
- ✓Voicemail to email with a transcript
- ✓Call recording you switch on per number, with a caller notice
- ✓AI call transcripts, summaries and sentiment on recorded calls
- ✓AI Receptionist to route callers, and the Answer Agent to take messages
- ✓Business hours, ring groups, call queues and IVR menus
When the $25 user is cheaper
A Cloud PBX user is $25 a month ex GST and includes a number plus 300 outbound minutes. The break-even is about 75 minutes a month of calls to mobiles, or about 150 minutes to landlines. Below that, the $10 number and pay-as-you-call is cheaper; above it, the $25 user is. The pricing calculator does the sum for your own call pattern.
The two plans share the same phone system. The only difference is how calls out are charged, so you can start on $10 and move a number to a $25 user later from the portal, or mix the two across a team: a $25 user for the person who calls all day, $10 numbers for the people who mostly answer.
An account takes two calls at once. Extra channels are $3 a month each, which a busy reception desk may want.
A business number on your mobile: the virtual landline explained
People search for this under several names: virtual landline, virtual business phone number, virtual phone number, business number for a mobile. They all describe the same thing. A real Australian number, with a real area code, that is not tied to a socket in a wall. Calls to it travel over the internet to wherever you have told the number to ring.
For a sole trader the practical effect is simple. You keep the mobile you already own. The Secure VoIP app rings for business calls and shows the business number when you dial out. Your personal number never appears on an invoice or a van, and when you sell the business or hire someone, the number goes with the business rather than with your phone.
Compared with giving out a personal mobile, a business number records calls if you switch recording on, transcribes them, routes them to a colleague when you are on another call, and answers with the AI when you cannot. Compared with an old landline, there is no line rental, no installation and nothing to move when you change premises. A business number without a landline is the normal case now, not the exception.
If you prefer not to use the app, the number can simply forward to your mobile's own number. A forwarded call is billed as an outbound call, so it uses a $25 user's included minutes first and otherwise costs 20c a minute to mobiles. Most people use the app once they have tried it, because caller ID and recording only work that way.
On your website and your Google Business Profile
The business number is what goes on the website, the Google Business Profile, directories, invoices and signage. A local number matches what people expect to see on a map listing for a local business; a 1300 or 1800 number suits a business that does not want to look tied to one suburb. Because the number is yours and portable, you can put it everywhere without worrying that a change of provider will force you to reprint anything.
One number can also sit behind a tracking plan: a second $10 number used only in advertising tells you which calls came from the ads, with the call reports in the portal showing each number separately.
Keeping the number you already have
If your number is already on the ute and the website, bring it with you. Local, 04 mobile, 1300 and 1800 numbers can all be ported to Click2Call for $100 inc GST each. Local and mobile numbers usually move in 5 to 10 business days; 1300 and 1800 numbers can take up to 30 days. Your number keeps working with your current provider the whole time and switches over on the day it moves.
The usual pattern is to test the system on a new number first, then lodge the port once you are happy. Do not cancel the old service before the port completes, or the number can be lost. The number porting page covers the details carrier by carrier.
What the AI adds to a business number
Three AI layers come with every Click2Call number at no extra charge, and each does one specific job. The AI Receptionist answers in your business name, asks what the caller needs and puts them through to the right person by voice, so a two-person business can offer a menu without recording one. The Answer Agent rings you first, and if you cannot pick up it takes the caller's name, number and reason, can book a time, and emails you a summary with the transcript. The AI Agent, for businesses that want it, holds a full conversation from a profile you write.
None of this replaces a person who wants to speak to you. It makes sure the call that arrives while you are driving, on a ladder or with another customer still ends up as a message in your inbox with the caller's details, rather than a missed call. The AI runs in Australia and the recordings and transcripts stay in Australia and New Zealand. The AI Receptionist page explains the three layers in detail.
