Connecting Your Own PBX with a SIP Trunk

If you already have a PBX — 3CX, FreePBX, Asterisk or another SIP-capable system — you can keep it and use Click2Call for your phone numbers and calls. One registration from your PBX carries every number on the account. This guide sets that up.

Which connection type should I use?

Connection types are set on the Voice → Profiles page, in the Connection Type list.

If you're not sure, use Registered SIP Trunk.

How do I set up a Registered SIP Trunk?

1. Decide whether to use the Default profile or a new one

Every number on the Default profile will route to your PBX once you change it. If some numbers should stay on Click2Call's apps and phones, click Create New Profile and set up the trunk on the new profile instead.

2. Set the connection type

On Voice → Profiles, set Connection Type to Registered SIP Trunk and choose your pilot number — usually your main number. This is the number your PBX will log in with.

3. Save the profile

Click Save 'Default' Profile (or save the new profile). If you created a new profile, go to Voice → Line Manager and choose that profile in the Profile column for each number that should go to the PBX.

4. Set a line password on the pilot number

In Voice → Line Manager, type a password into the Password box on the pilot number's row and click Save Changes. This is the password your PBX uses — not your portal login.

5. Register your PBX

Create a SIP trunk on your PBX with:

6. Check it's online

In Voice → Line Manager the pilot number's status turns online, and the line page shows Last Registered with your PBX's IP address. Make a test call in and out.

How are my other numbers delivered?

Every number on the profile now behaves as a direct-dial (DDI) number. Calls arrive over the trunk with the dialled number in the SIP request, so your PBX can route each number to the right extension, queue or menu. Numbers you add to the account later are routed to the trunk automatically.

Caller ID from your PBX

Over a Registered SIP Trunk, your PBX can present any number on your Click2Call account as the caller ID — set it per extension or per route in the PBX. You don't need to register each number separately.

Limiting simultaneous calls

The Limit Channels setting on the profile caps how many calls the trunk can carry at once (No limit, 1 or 2 channels). Leave it on No limit unless you want a cap.

What does a SIP trunk cost?

Changing the connection type does not change your billing. To get SIP trunk pricing, change the pilot number's line plan to SIP Trunk yourself in Account → Plan → Line Plans. The SIP Trunk plan is $50 per month ex GST and includes 500 outbound minutes, unlimited inbound calls and unlimited simultaneous calls. If you're unsure which plan your other numbers should be on, contact support and we'll check for you.

Troubleshooting

If the PBX won't register, or calls connect with no audio, see SIP Settings for Desk Phones, Adapters and PBX Systems and Fixing One-Way Audio and Dropped Registrations. Don't forward ports 5060 or 5061 to your PBX — see Stopping Ghost and Spam Calls.
