Different Ringtones for Internal Calls (Yealink and Grandstream)

You can make your desk phones ring differently when a colleague calls, so you know it's an internal call before you answer. Click2Call tags internal calls with a word you choose, and the phone plays a different ringtone when it sees that word.

Step 1: tag internal calls in the portal

  1. Go to Voice → Line Manager and click the number or extension.
  2. From the Incoming Calls menu, choose Caller ID, Call Waiting & Intercom.
  3. In Distinctive Ring Identifier, enter a word such as Internal.
  4. Save. Repeat for each number or extension that should hear the different ring.

By default the tag is only added to internal calls. Tick Apply Distinctive Ring to ALL calls only if you want every call to use it.

Step 2: choose the ringtone on a Yealink phone

The easiest way is through the portal, so the setting survives a factory reset. Edit the phone in Voice → Phones and add these lines to Custom Configuration:

distinctive_ring_tones.alert_info.1.text = Internal
distinctive_ring_tones.alert_info.1.ringer = Resource:Ring5.wav

Change Ring5.wav to the ringtone you want, save, and restart the phone. You can also set it by hand in the phone's web page under Settings → Ring.

Step 2: choose the ringtone on a Grandstream phone

Edit the phone in Voice → Phones and add these lines to Custom Configuration for account 1:

<P1488>Internal</P1488>
<P1489>7</P1489>

P1488 is the word to match and P1489 is the ringtone number from the phone's list (7 means the seventh ringtone). Save and restart the phone. By hand, it's under Accounts → Call Settings → Matching Rule in the phone's web page.

For other accounts on the same phone, use these setting numbers:

AccountWord to matchRingtone
1P1488P1489
2P1494P1495
3P1500P1501
4P1506P1507
5P1512P1513
6P1518P1519

Most SIP phones can pick a ringtone from the Alert-Info header. If you're not sure where the setting is on yours, contact support and we'll check for you.
