Secure VoIP on Windows: Clean Reinstall, Default Calling App and Linux

This guide covers three things for the Secure VoIP Micro Edition app on Windows. You can reinstall it cleanly, make it open when you click a phone number, and run it on Linux.

Clean reinstall

Uninstalling the app keeps your settings, so a fresh install picks up where you left off. If the app misbehaves after an update, remove its saved data as well:

  1. Quit the app. Check Task Manager to make sure it isn't still running.
  2. Open Settings → Apps, find Secure VoIP and click Uninstall.
  3. In File Explorer, open View and turn on Hidden items.
  4. Go to C:\Users\your name\AppData and delete the SecureVOIP folder.
  5. Reinstall from the link in Setting up the Secure VoIP app and log in again.

Make phone links open Secure VoIP

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Default apps.
  2. Search for TEL, click it and choose Secure VoIP.
  3. Do the same for CALLTO.

Phone numbers on web pages and in email now open in Secure VoIP when clicked.

Running it on Linux (not tested by Click2Call)

The Windows app can run on Linux using Wine.

  1. Install Wine. On Debian or Ubuntu, run the command below. For other systems, see winehq.org.
  2. Download the Micro Edition installer from the softphone guide.
  3. Open the installer with Wine, then log in with your number and line password.
sudo apt install wine64

If you'd rather use a native Linux app, Linphone works too. See Setting up Linphone.
