Get an Alert When a Phone Goes Offline

Line Monitoring checks every 5 minutes that your desk phone, adaptor or PBX is still connected. If it goes offline, you get an email, and it can also ring a number of your choice to tell you.

Last reviewed: October 2026

What it can watch

Desk phones, adaptors and PBXs that log in (register) with the number’s SIP details, and registered SIP trunks.

It does not work for the Click2Call smartphone apps, SIP peering (direct IP) trunks, IAX2 connections or Microsoft Teams.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Voice → Line Manager and click the number.
  2. Open the Other Settings menu and choose Line Monitoring.
  3. Tick Enable Monitoring for the Line.
  4. Alerts go to the account holder’s email. To send them elsewhere, list the addresses in Alert Email Address recipients, one per line.
  5. Optionally, enter a number at If the phone goes offline then dial out to this number. It is called and a message says the line has been disconnected.
  6. Save.

If the number has its own Message Playback recording, that recording is played on the call instead of the standard message.

Good to know: For an app on a mobile, use missed call alerts instead, so you hear about calls you did not answer.
